چکیده

Dendritic complexity of deep layer cat superior colliculus neurons has been studied by means of a stochastic model for dendritic outgrowth with randomly branching and elongating neurites. Branching probabilities are assumed to depend on the position and the number of segments in the growing tree. It is demonstrated that the shape properties of model generated dendrites conform closely to those of the observed trees. These "ndings make plausible that (i) dendritic development proceeds following a "rst phase of elongation and branching, and a second phase of elongation only, and (ii) newly formed segments after a branching event have a short initial length. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. Dendritic morphology and signal delay in superior colliculus neurons

Experimental data derived from two classes of superior colliculus neurons*deep layer neurons (DLNs) and super"cial layer neurons (SLNs)*have been used to study the in#uence of dendritic anatomy on synaptic input processing. Anatomical measures of dendrites were "rst determined. Compartmental neuron models (3 of each class) were built to estimate passive membrane parameters and to calculate func...

Cerebellar projections to the superior colliculus in the cat.

The projections from the cerebellar nuclei to the superior colliculus of the cat have been studied by injecting small amounts of horseradish peroxidase into the colliculus and charting the distribution of the labeled neurons in the cerebellar nuclei. The results show that the cerebellar nuclei project to the deep layers of the superior colliculus, especially contralaterally. Of the deep cerebel...

Retrograde Tracing with Recombinant Rabies Virus Reveals Correlations Between Projection Targets and Dendritic Architecture in Layer 5 of Mouse Barrel Cortex

A recombinant rabies virus was used as a retrograde tracer to allow complete filling of the axonal and dendritic arbors of identified projection neurons in layer 5 of mouse primary somatosensory cortex (S1) in vivo. Previous studies have distinguished three types of layer 5 pyramids in S1: tall-tufted, tall-simple, and short. Layer 5 pyramidal neurons were retrogradely labeled from several know...

Immunolocalization of Dynamin I protein in projection neurons of the Visual system of the Adult cat

We here report on the immunolocalization of Dynamin I (Dyn I) in neurons of the visual system of the cat. The lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) complex displayed abundant Dyn I immunoreactivity in typical relay cells of the X-, Yand W-pathway. The superficial and deep layers of the superior colliculus were also populated by Dyn I-immunoreactive projection neurons of the Wand Y-cell system. In pr...

Cells of origin and terminations of the trigeminotectal projection in the cat as demonstrated with the horseradish peroxidase and autoradiographic methods.

By means of retrograde axonal transport of horseradish peroxidase (HRP), the distribution of trigeminotectal neurons of the cat has been studied in some detail (Baleydier and Mauguiere, 1978 ; Nagata and Kruger, 1979 ; Ogasawara, 1981). These studies have indicated that the intermediate and deep layers of the entire superior colliculus (SC) receive fibers from the contralateral sensory trigemin...
